gREATER BAY AREA macro business simulation competition 2022

A team of 3 students from Hong Kong Community College, PolyU is crowned champion at the Greater Bay Area Macro Business Simulation Competition 2022 among 60 teams of Hong Kong and 10 teams from China (Guangxi, Jilin, Harbin, Fujian, Inner Mongolia, Hebei)

Competition aims to enhance student’s business learning experience and promote academic and professional excellence through 4 rounds of business management simulation and presentation session.

It attracts 60 teams of over 300 students  from Hong Kong and 6 other regions of China, who joined the invaluble event via onsite and online.

Overview

EDUCATION

The overall objective of your business, within this simulation scenario is to achieve the highest score throughout 6 rounds of game on a ‘balanced scorecard’ and your performance of interview by the judges. The balanced scorecard is designed to provide a summary of the overall business performance for a given period as well as measuring the current profitability of the business. The scorecard contains key elements which drive the total score for your team. The major element to evaluate each company’s performance is the net present value (NPV) for certain period cumulated dividends and net income, other elements such as profit margin, current ratio or ROE etc. will be described before the competition. (60%)

JUDGING CRITERIA

Key Issues

Can the key issues be defined adequately, possibly break down in the key subsidiary issues?

Analysis

Have both qualitative and quantitative points been brought into the analysis?
Has the analytic report in the presentation been supported with facts or historical data?

Evaluation of Feasible Alternatives, Solutions and Recommendations

Are the recommendations realistic and are the solutions practical? Do the solutions and recommendations have a strategic focus?

Implementation and Plan of Action

Has the cost and process control been put into consideration? Is the plan of action a realistic solution and identified possible unforeseen issues?

Question-and-Answer Session

Has the team defended its position in a convincing manner and remained consistent to the presentation? Is the team agible to handle questions effectively and with confidence?

Presentation Form and Style

Did the team have good communication skills, creative presentation style and team photo?
Did the team budget its time appropriately?

The second part of the scorecard is the presentation after the simulation, the top 10 winning teams are required to illustrate their business decision from presentation and the score will be given based on the following criteria with respect to the presentation. (40%)
